Responsible Digital Transformation (RDT) Keywords meeting

In the first Keywords meeting on June 23, we will focus on the notion of ‘platform’. The discussion will be kicked off by three speakers: Ana Oprescu, Joris van Hoboken & Thomas Poell.

You are cordially invited to the first RDT Keywords Project meeting on Friday June 23, from 3.00 until 5.30 pm at the Institute for Advanced Studies (IAS). This project aims to grow an intellectual community across the University of Amsterdam on the theme of Responsible Digital Transformation (RDT).

We are inspired by Raymond Williams’s original work on keywords to understand how we talk about society and culture, as well as more recent attempts to repeat this in specific sub-domains such as the AI-Now Lexicon. Following these examples, we propose a distinct effort to collaborate across faculties on relevant keywords, such as 'data', 'algorithm', 'platform', 'AI', 'culture', 'public values', 'data ethics', as inquiries of interdisciplinary language and complex issues.

The project is supported by an editorial board of representatives from the various faculties. In the long term, it should lead to a joint UvA publication on shared 'keywords', as they define our research in the digital domain.

Speakers:

Ana Oprescu is Assistant Professor in the Complex Cyber-Infrastructure research group in the Institute of Informatics in the Faculty of Sciences at the UvA.

Joris van Hoboken is Associate Professor at the Institute for Information Law (IViR) at the UvA and Professor of Law at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel.

Thomas Poell is Professor of Data, Culture & Institutions at the Faculty of Humanities at the UvA.
