TLS symposium: The regulation and practice of AI in (mental) healthcare: exploring the boundaries of responsibilities in the digitalised world

Digital and AI-based technologies play a growing role in various areas of the (mental) health domain, from administrative processes to care delivery and self-care. In such dynamic context, the question emerges how do the various stakeholders involved in (mental) healthcare and policy perceive, navigate, and exercise the responsibilities as ascribed under the emerging EU regulations and national rules and guidelines, professional codes, and other frameworks, in order to use and implement new digital and AI solutions in a manner that ensures access to safe and effective (mental) healthcare of appropriate quality and in accordance with the applicable legal and ethical norms. To address this question, the symposium aims to bring together academic, practitioners’, policymakers’, and patient advocacy perspectives to illuminate the various aspects of the regulation and practice of digital technologies used both in and outside of the health systems. To do that, the symposium will comprise two thematic sessions, spanning various levels and contexts of care (delivery). Each session will include several presentations by experts in the field, who will cover both legal and policy, as well as empirical dimensions of digital (mental) health, and a moderated discussion with the audience.
