EU Digital Regulation: Critical Perspectives on Power, Rights and Governance

Hosted by the Amsterdam Centre for European Law and governance (ACELG), this in person event delves into critical approaches to digital regulation in the EU. Speakers are Hannah van Kolfschooten, researcher and lecturer at the Law Centre for Health and Life, and Plixavra Vogiatzoglou, postdoctoral researcher at the Amsterdam Center for International Law and the Institute for Information Law.

Dr Vogiatzoglou will examine the concept of EU digital sovereignty and how it relates to the promotion of emerging technologies and EU standards worldwide. Dr Van Kolfschooten will explore the ethical and legal dilemmas AI poses in healthcare. Together, their research interrogates how EU digital policy and regulation seeks to safeguard citizens’ rights but also raises profound questions about power dynamics and responsibilities in our increasingly automated world.

This event is part of the ACELF Spotlight on In-House Expertise series, aiming to highlight colleagues from across the University of Amsterdam working on EU law—beyond the core ACELG membership—offering a unique opportunity to learn more about their research, insights, and perspectives.
