Clinical decision-support (CDS) systems assist clinicians at making patient-specific decisions at the point when such decisions are required. The European Union Artificial Intelligence Act considers most CDS high risk systems and places most of the requirements for such systems on system developers. While the legal objectives protecting fundamental rights are set in place, there is a scarcity of work demonstrating how such objectives can be operationalized in practice.
The aim of this project is to develop methodologies which, when applied to CDS system development, result in equitable, safe, and legitimate patient outcomes, promoting the uptake of human-centric and trustworthy artificial intelligence in medicine.
